Always Bring Out the Best in Other People

Do you automatically “sense” things about other people right when you meet them?

That’s normal. You’re picking up on the signals they send nonverbally.

Not long ago, I walked into a room of thirteen people who were all strangers to me, and right away I sensed one of them was different.

Confidence brings out the best in other people

She was the leader of the others.

I immediately sensed how she radiated a steady warmth toward the others – and confidence.

And that had a strong effect on me. Because I know from my own experience that it’s easy to work with confident leaders. Therefore, I relaxed. Such leaders don’t feel the need to prove anything, because they don’t feel insecure.

That effects how they treat other people. Because they don’t need to prove they’re superior to anyone else, they focus on building other people.

I advise you to look for the same secure confidence and leadership in men, as well.

In the next two hours, I had a great time working with that group. Having a confident leader brings out the best in people.

“When you have confidence, you can have a lot of fun. And when you have a lot of fun, you can do amazing things.”

That quote is from the great quarterback Joe Namath.

Most people want to feel a lot more confident than they do. They want to bring out the best in other people, both on a job and socially. But they don’t know how.

Confidence Comes from Action, Not Words

First, think about where confidence comes from.

I believe it’s our natural state – at least, when we’re not insecure, afraid or worried.

It’s how you act when you’re along with just your closest friends.

Some people just seem to know how to act confidence and self-assured all the time. They just radiate confidence no matter where they are, who they’re with or what the situation is.

Is it their self-talk? Do they recite affirmations or other self-help technique? I doubt it.

I do believe in those self-help techniques, and you should use them to help you. But in my opinion, true confidence comes only by getting through the rough experiences of life.

Confidence that’s bone-deep comes from lived experience.

Action Beats Affirmations for Building Confidence

For example, say you want to get rid of the fear of speaking in public, a very common fear.

When you get up in front of a group to speak, the affirmations will not stop you from feeling nervous and afraid.

But . . . give that speech fifty times in fifty days, and you’ll lose that fear entirely.

The experience of doing it repeatedly will give you natural confidence you can’t get any other way.

Affirmations can help you. You can tell yourself every day how beautiful you are and how you are worthy of love.

Build Confidence to Find the Love You Deserve

But you also want to take action. Enlist a terrific hair stylist and a personal trainer. Go on a shopping trip for new clothes.

By doing things, you’ll make yourself feel at your best.

When was the last time you took that kind of action?

Dale Carnegie said, “Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”
